Litany against Fear | The Wolverine | Panoramic Everest

Litany against fear

We’ve collectively experienced the whole spectrum of emotions in the first half 2020. Fear, anxiety and mourning have been highly prevalent.

I’ve found myself turning back to the seminal novel ‘Dune’ and specifically, the ‘Litany against fear’. The litany is uttered by characters as a means to focus their minds during times of peril:

“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.”

Acknowledged as one of the greatest works of Science-Fiction (with a promising film in the works), Dune is a masterpiece in politics, leadership and social dynamics.
